Our city’s upcoming Mayoral election is a big topic of discussion here at work. Yesterday, I was surprised to hear a couple of Republican co-workers discussing the merits of our leading Democratic Party candidate. They were both agreeing that she (yes, SHE!) was the best candidate and that she had their vote. “Let me get this straight, “I said, “I know that you are both rabid hard core republicans who STILL are not over the whole Clinton thing. You love your man Bush! BOTH of them…. And yet you are going to vote Democrat?” I could not believe this. I had many many heated political debates with each of these people over the last several years. (One, involving health care reform, had very nearly come to blows.) Not only that, they told me, but they had friends who had switched party affiliations just to be able to facilitate her rise over her opposition in the primaries. Wow. What does it say that their candidates are so bad they bail on their party? What does it say about me that I wou...

Whatever Happened to Just Candy Bars for a Buck?

Why you should buy the fundraiser crap my kid is selling: 1. Because most likely, you have, have had, or will have a kid selling crap. Ergo, Karma. 2. Because you remember when you were a kid and you wanted, so badly, to be the one who sold the most. 3. Because you remember how cool it was when you were a kid and your parents hawked your stuff for you at work. 4. Because it really is for a good cause. 5. Because it really is good cookie dough. 6. Because it really is quality wrapping paper. 7. Because it really is good Amish jam. 8. Because you’re nice 9. Because I’m nice 10. Because my kid is cute 11. Because my kid is not cute 12. Because it’s dangerous to go door to door. 13: Because raw cookie dough really does cure the blues. 14: Because you can afford it. And lastly, reason number 15: Because I bought your kid’s crap.

In my head right now...

I’m sad that Dana Reeves died today. I didn ’t know her, but she was fighting the good fight. She was a noble person – kept going spite of the fact that life was really giving her a shitty deal. I wonder how all the serious bloggers blog. I mean, I am never going to disclose as much as some of the others I have read. I tend to pick a topic and pontificate on it until I have said my piece. It’s not an ongoing kind of thing. I also find it interesting to watch the self impressed 30 somethings who are taking over the world. I read their websites, their books, their blogs. They seem to know it all and to be unencumbered by the self doubt that plagued my generation. I’ ve been thinking about the Mark of a Man and what defines nobility. I’ ve been listening to a wistful sounding French girl sing. I’ ve been thinking a lot about love. And somehow all of these things tie in together and keep me up very late at the laptop.
